Exhibits Curator, Terri Jordan, states “It is important to us that in celebrating women artists, we celebrate a variety of artistic expressions. Great paintings of women come in many representations.”

Among the artists represented in the museum show is Lisa Gleim. In 2005 she co-founded the Atlanta Fine Arts League as a catalyst for her project, Art from the Heart, in which local artists paint the portraits of Georgia’s fallen soldiers free of charge for surviving family members.

Lisa is a Member of Excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society; Elected Artist of the American Artists Professional League; full member of the Audubon Artists and the Catherine Lorillard Wolf Art Club.

Franklin, Tennessee artist Thalia Kahl works with a palette knife to create her expressive figures. An award-winning artist, Thalia’s work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine, the San Francisco Gate, and Nashville Arts Magazine. She is a member of the American Impressionist Society, The Oil Painters of America, and the Chestnut Group.

Other artists in the Customs House Museum exhibit include Chantel Barber, Vicki Babb, Suzanne Way, Elizabeth Porter, Mei-Ying Dell’ Aquila, Donna Talerico, Alison Oakes, and Margaret Mroczek.

Artists Alia El-Bermani, Diane Feissel and Sadie Valeri established the blog site Women Painting Women in March of 2009; since then the site has featured the work of hundreds of women painters from around the globe.

The popularity of the blog has led to multi-location exhibitions throughout the U.S. and abroad. Other exhibits of “women painting women” are being shown this fall at The Principle Gallery: Charleston, South Carolina, and the Richard J Demato Fine Art Gallery of Sag Harbor, NY.

Women Painting Women will be on view at the Customs House September 12th through November 2nd. There will be an artist reception on October 2nd. Located at the corner of Second and Commerce Streets, the Customs House Museum is the second largest general museum in Tennessee.
