Clarksville Police Department reports Skeletal Remains found June 28th, 2014 Identified

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The skeletal remains recovered from the Dover Road area June 28th, 2014 have been positively identified through familial DNA testing.

The Clarksville Police Department’s Special Operations Unit Detectives, with the assistance of the Forensic Institute of Research and Education Unit located at MTSU in Murfreesboro, have identified the remains as those of 57-year-old Steve Howsare.

A forensic pathologist examined the remains and determined Howsare’s death was not a result of foul play.

Howsare, formerly from Pennsylvania, lived in Clarksville previously and had no relatives residing in the area. It had been discovered through the course of the investigation that Howsare had a son who still lived in Pennsylvania.

With the assistance from the Pittsburgh Police Department, the son was contacted and voluntarily provided a DNA sample for comparison to the remains.

On August 7th, Detectives received a report that stated the skeletal samples were a positive match in identifying Howsare. Howsare’s son has since been notified of the results. This case is still ongoing.

If anyone has any information about Howsare, to include the last time he was seen alive, please contact Detective Chris Nolder at 931.648.0656 Ext. 5341.
