Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Art on the Park Contest, Martial Arts Seminar and Black Belt training and Kleeman Community Center’s Haunted Maze .

2nd annual Spooky Spectacular and Haunted Maze coming Saturday, October 18th.

Art on the Park Contest

Art students, get those creative juices flowing! The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the “Art on the Park” contest. Students in grades 6-12 may design their own masterpiece for the chance to paint it on a wall of Heritage Park Skatepark. The winner(s) of the art contest will receive a gift card, their framed artwork and the opportunity to paint their design on a designated wall of the Heritage Park Skatepark!

Entries must be submitted to 102 Public Square on 8″ x 11″ size paper no later than September 12th. Name, grade, address, phone number and art teacher should be included on the back. Students may use up to 5 colors in their artwork. No offensive language, copyrighted material or gang signs, will be permitted.

Crow Community Center to host Martial Arts Seminar and Black Belt training

The Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road, will host the first-ever Kenpo-Kobujitsu Seminar and group black belt examination Friday, September 19th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, September 20th from 7:00am to 4:00pm. This weekend event is for teens and adults at least 16-years-old and will be free of charge!

The weekend will start with a group black belt test on Friday and will continue on Saturday with demonstrations and seminars on Okinawan karate. Other topics that will be covered in Saturday’s seminar will be empty hand forms, traditional weapon forms, and their meanings and significance. A traditional martial arts uniform is encouraged but not mandatory. No martial arts experience is required.

Kleeman Community Center’s Haunted Maze offers prizes for the scariest volunteers!

The Kleeman Community Center and the Indoor Aquatic Center will be scaring up some Halloween fun with their 2nd annual Spooky Spectacular and Haunted Maze on Saturday, October 18th.

The Kleeman Center is currently looking for teams who would be interested in scaring up some fun this year by creating areas in the Cult Classic Horror Film themed Haunted Maze.

There is no charge to be a part of this contest and a limited amount of props are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
However, teams are encouraged to bring their own props and décor. The team with the scariest area of the maze will be awarded a plaque, a $50.00 gift card, and the right to call themselves the scariest!

To enter, visit www.cityofclarksville.com to download and complete the entry form. Forms must be returned to Clarksville Parks and Recreation no later than October 3rd in order to participate.
