Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for September 16th through September 21st, 2014

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Seeds, Raccoons and Ripe Corn, Night Hike, Trail of Tears at Port Royal, Easy Birding Walk, Bird Hike, Port Royal History Walk and Evening Nature Hike.

Tuesday, September 16th

Seeds

Time: 4:00pm–5:00pm
Ages: 4 – 11

Learn about how plants prepare for the future with different kinds of seeds. Bring an old sock or two.

Reservations By: 4:30pm, September 14th.

Raccoons and Ripe Corn

Time: 7:00pm–7:30pm
Ages: 4 – 10

Learn to read the signs animals leave behind by watching an indoor DVD showing.

Thursday, September 18th

Night Hike

Time: 7:00pm–8:30pm
Ages: All ages

Join the ranger for a hike to see what night creatures we can find.

Saturday, September 20th

Trail of Tears at Port Royal

Time: 10:00am–11:00am
Ages: 10 – adult

Learn about this time from the history of Port Royal. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot.

Easy Birding Walk

Time: 6:00pm–7:00pm
Ages: 12-adult

If you don’t want to come out for one of our early bird hikes, bring your binoculars and join us for this easy evening walk.

Sunday, September 21st

Bird Hike

Time: 8:00am–9:30am
Ages: 9-adult

Bring your binoculars and we will learn to identify birds by sight and sound.

Port Royal History Walk

Time: 2:00pm–3:00pm
Ages: 8 – adult

Join us for a walk around Port Royal Historic Area. Meet at the upper parking lot (beside the Visitor Center).

Evening Nature Hike

Time: 6:30pm-7:30pm
Ages: All ages

This time of day is great for seeing wildlife such as deer, owls and bats. Come walk the 1 mile trail and beat the heat.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.
