Trevecca coach Michael Johnson commented on the first day of play and the rapid-paced trip the team is on, “It’s been a whirlwind just getting here, but I’m so glad we came. Coach Coleman and the folks from Mercyhurst as well as the staff at Lakeview Country Club have done a terrific job putting this together.”

“We’re very happy that we were able to get out on this terrific course, sight unseen except for some photos on their website, and play reasonably well. Alexa and Mikayla set the pace, but I predict a really nice bounce back in Kaylon, Marlee and Lauren tomorrow.”

The other Trojan contributors are Kaylon King (JR/Hartselle, Ala.) at 84, Marlee Stecker (JR/Dickson, Tenn.) with a 88, and Lauren Welch (FR/Nashville, Tenn.) carded a 99.

“Alexa had our first eagle of the new year on the par-5, 6th hole today when she holed a shot from the rough from about 60 yards out. But, overall, I think we showed some real signs of becoming a terrific D2 team.” Johnson continued, “It’s wonderful to have Megan Moir (pronounced Moy-er) as our new assistant. We’re all proud of the work that Will and Ashley Scism did the last couple of years, but it’s a blessing to have someone like Megan come in from an SEC power program (University of Kentucky) to help offer some new insights. Her experience with D1 golf at a very high level will certainly be a boost to our efforts this year.”

Johnson concluded, “We’re all excited about the round tomorrow and hope to bring home a win! I think we may be even more excited about sleeping in tomorrow morning. We don’t have to be at the course till noon!”

Trevecca will stay in Erie for their next event when they play in Gannon University’s Michael Corbett Classic.
