Clarksville High Wildcats, Rossview Lady Hawks win District 10-AAA Golf Tournament

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – It was déjà vu all over again, September 15th at Swan Lake Golf Course, with the Rossview High School’s girls golf team and Clarksville High’s boys golf team repeating as the District 10-AAA tournament title winners.

The Lady Hawks would edge the Clarksville High Lady Wildcats by three shots (149-152) to not only win the tournament title, but remain undefeated on the season.

“I was having to be a scorer on another hole, so I wasn’t with my girls and I was really stressing out,” Rossview head coach Phil Burkhart said. “I didn’t exactly know we stood, but I heard it was pretty much even, but we had a stroke or two more lead than I thought.

“Hanley (Long) came through as a senior and Reagan (Greene) finished up in a playoff and finished third, so both of the seniors played well and sophomore Caroline Caudill stayed right in there and was in the playoffs too, so all three played well today.”

Long would finish as the low medalist in the tournament – despite starting the day two-over par after the first three holes – and finishing with a round of even par 71, three shots better than runner-up Mariah Smith – from Clarksville High.

“It was definitely not the ideal start that you would wish for,” Long said. “But I knew there would be quite a few holes coming up that I bounce back on, with the par fives playing super short for us (from the women’s tees) and being able to get on (the green) in two (shots), as they were probably be birdible.”

Joining Rossview and Clarksville High will be Henry County High School girls team, while Olivia Salamy and Danayla Odom-West, from Northeast High School, Chloe Land and Taylor Lish, from Springfield High School and Northwest High School’s Alyssa Carlton also advancing to play as individuals in the region tournament.

On the boys side, Clarksville High won by 52 shots over runner-up Henry County (315-367), with Rossview also earning a berth into the region tournament with a third-place finish and a 378 team total.

“I was happy with today’s effort, but I know some of the kids aren’t happy with their scores,” Clarksville High coach Adam Welch said. “But I’m happy with the way we played and give ourselves some momentum going to the region tournament next week were we’re going t have to be on the top of our game.”

Springfield’s Vince Gallager was the boys low medalist, with a one-over par round of 72 – edging the Wildcats Logan Reynolds by a stroke and he along with teammates Chase Ray, Jeremy Dillingham an Jodie Plant – along with Kenwood High School’s Alex Brack will advance to the region tournament to play as individuals.

The Region 5-AAA tournament will be played on September 22nd at the Country Hills Golf Course in Hendersonville, TN, with the winning girls and boys teams – as well as the top four individual scores not on the winning team advancing to the TSSAA Class AAA State Tournament on September 30th and October 1st at the WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester, TN.
