Clarksville High Lady Wildcats Soccer dispatches Henry County Lady Patriots in District 10-AAA matchup 8-0

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Scoring two goals in the first three minutes, September 16th at Hilda J. Richardson Athletic Field, Clarksville High School’s girls soccer team was never threaten in their District 10-AAA match versus Henry County High School in dispatching the Lady Patriots 8-0.

Fans hadn’t even settled into their seats when Clarksville High (10-0-3, 4-0-0 District 10-AAA) got onto the board with their first goal, as just 49 seconds into the match. Salera Jordan put in a rebound of a shot by Ella Baggett for the quick 1-0 lead.

That goal was just a foreshadowing of what was to come early-on for Clarksville High, with the Lady Wildcats second goal – a header by Baggett off a cross from Jordan – coming in the third minute and a third goal just five minutes later; also from Baggett, as she beat a pair of Henry County (6-2-2, 3-1-0 District 10-AAA) defenders.

“I thought we played well early, despite our girls being a little bit tired,” Clarksville High coach Jeff Jordan said. “I told them if they played hard in the first 20 minutes of each half we would let them rest some, because we have a big game on (September 18th) against Hendersonville (High School).

“Everybody got to play, and most of them got to play a whole lot.”

The Lady Wildcats would continue to score in the opening half with Tennessee Barkalow finding the back of the net, on a cross by Jordan, in the 18th minute; while the fifth and final goal of the first half by Clarksville High came in the 25th minute from Autumn Copeland – off a great touch pass from Jordan for her third assist of the first half.

“We want to be economical with our shots and we work on that a lot in practice,” Jordan said. “It’s good to see that work translate into the game with our ball movement and movement away from the ball.”

But as unstoppable as the Lady Wildcats offense was their defense was just as good, as they limited Henry County to just two shots on the night.

“To be fair, they did have three players out with concussions,” Jordan said. “So I think they have some other players that will make them a more competitive team later in the year when they get those girls back.”

Henry County’s best chance of scoring came 65th minute, when Sophie Carter got out on break in between two CHS defenders, but her shot went over the goal after hitting off the cross bar.

Clarksville High on the other hand scored three more times after intermission – on just five shots.

The first second-half goal came in the 46th minute from Baggett – to complete the hat trick – off a touch pass from Jordan for her fourth assist of the night.

Gybson Roth would score the seventh goal for Clarksville High in the 54th minutes, as she blasted an unassisted shot into the net – just below the crossbar.

The final goal of the night for CHS came just two minutes later, with Justis Bailey taking a pass from Jordan (her fifth assist) in front of the goal and punching it in the for the 8-0 final.

Overall, Clarksville High outshot Henry County 20-2 and 15-0 in shots on goal, while recording the only five corner kicks of the match.

Melia Correa and Bella D’Alessandro combined in goal for the eighth shutout of the season for the Lady Wildcats, while Henry County got seven saves from Addi Cate.
