Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team hosts Samford, 7:00pm, Friday at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field in the middle match of a three-game homestand that also concludes Austin Peay’s non-conference schedule.

The Lady Govs current five-match slide is their longest since 2009, and their five-match goalless drought is the longest since 2009.

Recently, the Austin Peay offense has shown the ability to get forward, but the finishing touch has been missing.

Austin Peay has been through the gauntlet during the non-conference schedule, facing a pair of Southeastern Conference foes in Alabama and Ole Miss along with Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee and Atlantic Sun co-leader Lipscomb. Samford offers little in the way of reprieve, currently sitting at 4-4-0.

However, that record comes with a caveat, since the Bulldogs have played three top-25 programs, coming away with a 2-1 upset win against 18th-ranked Auburn, September 12th.

Last time out, the Lady Govs hung tough with a talented Ole Miss side, coming out on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision against the Rebels. Freshman Lindsey Todd made six second-half saves against the Rebels.

The Ohio Valley Conference schedule begins next weekend for Austin Peay, which hosts Eastern Kentucky 7:00pm, September 26th before traveling to face 2013 OVC Tournament champion Morehead State, 2:00pm, September 28th.

Last Time Against Friday’s Opponent

This will be Austin Peay’s first contest against Samford since 2007, when they dropped a 2-1 road decision to the Bulldogs, then a member of the OVC. Ashley Beck scored the lone tally for Austin Peay. All-time, the Lady Govs are 0-5-1 against Samford, earning a draw in 2006.

Keep An Eye On

  • Sophomore Gina Fabbro needs two goals to tie Jocelyn Murdoch (2008, 10-12) for 10th all-time.
  • Austin Peay’s goalless drought stands at 458:38, longest since 2009.
  • After making just 70 saves total in 2013 (3.68/g), Austin Peay keepers have made 44 saves through just seven matches (6.29/g) this season, led by junior Nikki Filippone with 19.
