In the opener versus Memphis, the two teams would be scoreless after two innings – with Lady Govs starter Natalie Ayala setting down all six Tigers batters she faced.

But Memphis would put together four hits after Ayala got the first batter of the inning out, as the Tigers pushed across three runs.

Austin Peay would answer right back in the bottom of the inning, matching the Tigers three runs with three of their own, including an RBI single by Erica Inagaki to score Courtney Brower, a bases-loaded walk to Laurel Burroughs that forced in Rikki Arkansas and Marissa Lake scoring the final run on a passed ball.

Arkansas would lead the Lady Govs with two hits.

The score would remain that way until the top of the fifth inning, when Memphis was able to score what turned out to be the game winner on a two-out base hit.

Lake, Brower and Alexis Hill also had hits in the loss to Memphis.

In the nightcap, Austin Peay would get out to an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single by Heather Norris – driving in Lake – but Northeast Mississippi would answer back with an RBI single of its own from Jorda Waters in the top of the second inning to tie the game 1-1.

But the Lady Govs exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run triple by Allie Blackwood and two-run doubles from Mel Pavel and Burroughs.

Chandler Groves and Savannah Oliver also drove in runs in the inning.

Austin Peay would add to more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run double by Groves to make it 13-1, with Northeast Mississippi adding two runs in the top of the fifth for the 13-3 final margin.

Overall, Austin Peay collected 13 hits in the victory, with Lake, Burroughs, Pavel, Oliver and Chandler recording two hits each.

Norris picked up the victory — going four innings — while giving up one run on two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

The Lady Govs next fall action will come this Friday, when they travel to Gallatin, TN to face the Volunteer State Community College Lady Pioneers in a doubleheader, scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
