Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Junior Jessica Cathey will be looking to grab her third top-10 finish as the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will compete in the Chris Bannister Golf Classic, Sunday-Tuesday, at the Silver Lakes Golf Course in Gadsden, Alabama.

The 54-hole event will be played on a par-72, 5998-yard layout.

Competing this weekend for the Lady Govs will be Cathey, sophomore Morgan Kauffman, sophomore Morgan Gardner, freshman AnnaMichelle Moore and senior Meghan Mueller. In addition, sophomore Amber Bosworth will compete as an individual.

Cathey is coming off of a second straight Top 10 finish this past weekend at the Saluki Shootout and seeks to continue her solid play. The Lady Govs also need Kauffman and Moore to continue improving their respective games and scores.

Windy conditions in Carbondale this past weekend contributed to a sub-par performance, however, APSU coach Sara Robson is confident in the team’s consistency.

“If there is one quality this team has more than any other collective group I have had its determination.” Robson said. “These girls are determined to not give up, they grind to the end and that is what it takes.

“Jessica is determined to get a win. She has the talent and ability, we just need her to be patient and keep hitting fairways and greens. We are looking for Kauffman and Moore to get on the van and be focused 100 percent on golf. With that, and consistent timing in their swings, they are very close to shooting in the mid-to-low 70s all the time.”

The 11-team field includes host Jacksonville State along with two other Ohio Valley Conference foes Belmont and Morehead State. This will be the second time the Lady Govs will face Belmont this season and the first time they face Jacksonville State and Morehead State.
