The two-day, 54-hole tournament (36 holes Monday, 18 Tuesday) will be played on a par-72, 7100-yard layout on the former Cardinal Club that is now owned by the University of Louisville.

In addition to the Govs and the host, the tourney will feature league foes Eastern Kentucky, UT Martin and Murray State along with Western Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisiana Monroe, Stetson, Southern Illinois, DePaul, Northern Kentucky, New Orleans, Dayton, Western Carolina and High Point.

“It will be another strong field—maybe not like we have seen the previous two tournaments—but nonetheless another strong tournament,” said interim APSU coach Dustin Korte. “Obviously this will be a great course for a third week in a row—but there are birdies to be made. This is one where maybe we can get some confidence, make some birdies and shoot some low scores.”

It also will benefit the Govs that Korte played the course multiple times as a Governor, mostly recently just two seasons ago. Although some improvements have been made since Louisville took over the course, it is expected to be played similarly to when Korte competed.

“Being able to relate to them about the course should be of great benefit,” Korte said. “It is something you can relate to them—if you have been able to play a course well you can relate to them ‘driver is not worth it here.’ That is something we have to get better at—hitting the right club off the tee.”

And Korte will be relied on heavily Monday and Tuesday as for the second time in three tournaments he will be taking three freshmen. Joining juniors Austin Kramer and Chris Baker will be Andres Navarrete, Jonas Vaisanen and Colton Godwin. For Godwin, an Ocala, FL, native, this will be his college debut.

“These first two courses were very, very challenging and the players got beat up a little,” Korte said. “But they seem like are trying to press forward. The difficulty is they all want to go so bad, but unfortunately I can only take five.

“We need someone who is going to make birdies and get it done. Last week pars were great but this week we need birdies to be made if we are going to be successful.”
