10,000 to walk for Hearts at Greater Nashville Heart Walk this Saturday, October 4th

American Heart Association - Heart WalkNashville, TN – Get your walking shoes on! The 2014 Greater Nashville Heart Walk will welcome 10,000+ walkers bright and early at Vanderbilt University sports field (Blakemore Avenue/Natchez Trace) next Saturday, October 4th, 2014. It’s one of the largest fundraising walks in Tennessee.

The annual event is the largest fundraiser for the American Heart Association in the Nashville area, and funds go to vital research, public health programs and community education to fight heart disease and stroke, which together kill 1 in 3 Americans. This year’s fundraising goal is $2 million.

Everyone is welcome and it’s free! No registration required.

A huge two-hour festival will start at 8:00am, featuring interactive games, live music, a special kid zone, and activities for the whole family. The Walk begins at 10:00am. The day is free, but donations are encouraged.

Ben R. Leedle, Jr., President & CEO of Healthways, Inc. and Peter J. Weien, Manager of Gaylord Opryland Resort and Attractions, are co-chairs of this year’s campaign.

The Heart Walk is part of the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. platform, encouraging Americans to get physically active and eat healthy food as steps toward a heart-healthy lifestyle and better community health.

Heart disease and stroke take the lives of 1 in 3 Americans, including 17,000 Tennesseans per year. Yet 80% of cardiovascular disease is preventable through healthy living choices we make every day.
