The Govs finished with 47 points, outpacing Ohio Valley Conference rivals UT Martin and Jacksonville State. The win was the first for the Governors since the Thorobreds Stampede, October 8th, 2011.

The Govs were led by sophomore Daniel Hamm, who claimed the individual title posting a time of 25:51.56 over the eight-kilometer course. He was followed by sophomores Kyle Harmon (6th, 27:11.97), Hunter Guthrie (10th, 27:40.87). Wrapping up the scoring five for the Govs were sophomore Alex Haycraft (13th, 28:03.58) and freshman Nathan Sparks (17th, 28:25.32).

Also competing for the Governors were sophomore Thomas Owen (23rd, 29:36.27), freshman Mickey Fils (28th, 30:04.11) and freshman Alan Crosby (29th, 31:26.71).

“It’s always great to win at a meet, but it’s even better to win both the team and individual championships,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “Daniel kept the pressure up the entire way, but it was a total team effort to earn this victory.”

The Govs will have a week off before they return to the trail, when they compete at the UE Cross Country Invitational. The eight-kilometer race will be held at 11:00am, October 18th, at Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Evansville, Indiana.
