Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.
This weeks highlights include: Halloween Activities, Costume Swap and Civil War Carbine Demo at Fort Defiance.
Halloween Activities
Kleeman Community Center and the Indoor Aquatic Center plan to scare up fun and thrills at the second-annual, Spooky Spectacular and Haunted Maze and Swim!
The Kleeman Community Center and the Indoor Aquatic Center will be scaring up some Halloween fun with their second-annual Spooky Spectacular and Haunted Maze and Swim on Saturday, October 18th. The Spooky Spectacular will be open from 2:00pm to 5:00pm with a Haunted Maze and Haunted Swim following from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at both facilities, located side-by-side at 166 Cunningham Lane.
The Spooky Spectacular’s activities will take place from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. These activities will be very family-friendly and will include a floating pumpkin patch inside the Indoor Aquatic Center. Other activities such as inflatables, music provided by an onsite DJ, and vendors with games and prizes will also be available for folks to enjoy.
The Haunted Maze and Haunted Swim portion of the evening will take place from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. These events are geared towards the older crowd may be considered too scary for young children. The Haunted Maze will be located just beyond the Kleeman Center and the Haunted Swim will feature frightful lifeguards inside the Indoor Aquatic Center.
Admission for the Spooky Spectacular and the Haunted Maze and Swim is $4.00 per patron, per event. Armbands are available for those wishing to attend both portions of the event for $7.00.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation hosts Costume Swap
Clarksville Parks and Recreation is gearing up for all the Halloween fun, and this year, they will be introducing a new feature to the line-up: The Halloween Costume Swap! If you have an old costume that no longer fits, isn’t your style, or is just taking up too much room in your closet, Clarksville Parks and Recreation has the answer!
Drop your clean, gently used costume by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office (102 Public Square) Monday through Friday, October 13th-17th, from 8:00am to 4:30pm. In exchange for your costume you will receive a ticket to select a costume from the donations on Monday, October 20th, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, or while supplies last, at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.
Costumes not claimed that evening will be up for grabs on Tuesday, October 21st, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, or while supplies last, at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. Costumes will be sorted by size and distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Please remember, those donating costumes will have first pick of the selection.
So join the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department in recycling Halloween costumes and getting excited for Fright on Franklin, to be held on Saturday, October 25th, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in Downtown Clarksville.
Civil War Carbine Demo coming to Fort Defiance
A demonstration of Civil War weaponry is planned for Saturday, November 8th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm, at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center located at 120 Duncan Street.
During the event, Mr. George Wernke will demonstrate firing techniques of numerous Civil War carbines and repeating rifles. There will also be discussions about equipment, shelter, rations, camp life, and women in war from that era.
