APSU Governors Cross Country looks to build monentum at UE Invitational

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team, fresh off its first team victory since 2011, travels to Evansville, Indiana, to take part in the UE Cross Country Invitational, 11:00am, Saturday, at Angel Mounds State Historic Site.

The eight-kilometer competition will be APSU’s final before the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, November 1st, at Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford, Alabama.

The Governors seek to build on a successful performance at the JSU Foothills Invitational where they finished with 47 points to bring home the title, outpacing OVC rivals UT Martin and Jacksonville State.

“We’ve definitely picked up a little momentum over the past three of four weeks,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We are getting ready to peak, and this race is one more step towards conference.”

In its last meet, the Governors were led by individual champion Daniel Hamm, who posted a time of 25:51.56 over the eight kilometer course.  He was followed by sophomore classmates Kyle Harmon (6th, 27:11.97), Hunter Guthrie (10th, 27:40.87) and Alex Haycraft (13th, 28:03.58). Wrapping up the scoring five was freshman Nathan Sparks (17th, 28:25.32).
