Austin Peay State University Women’s Cross Country loses to Evansville, beats Murray State at UT Invitational

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUEvansville, IN – For the second consecutive meet, Austin Peay State University women’s cross country finished second among Division I teams, Saturday, in the UE Invitational at Angel Mounds State Historic Site.

The Lady Govs finished meet with 53 points, trailing host Evansville (29) but defeating Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State (132).

Junior Jessica Gray led the Lady Govs with a fourth-place finish, covering the five-kilometer course in 19:10.8. She was followed by freshman Sarah-Emily Woodward (7th, 19:38.9) and sophomore Molly Jordan (10th, 19:51.1).

Wrapping up the scoring five for the Lady Govs were freshman Becca Wheeler (12th, 20:07.4) and junior Alexis Eldridge (20th, 20:44.6).

Also competing for Austin Peay were sophomore Unjala Lester (22nd, 20:52.6) and freshman Sarah Carpenter (23rd, 21:07.7)

“Today was one more step towards conference,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We have been getting better every week. Both Jessica and Sarah-Emily ran really well today and I thought Alexis ran a very solid race too.”

With the regular season completed, the Lady Govs now look forward to the Ohio Valley Conference Championships. The five-kilometer race will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, November 1st at the Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford, Alabama.
