Overall, the Lady Govs are in 11th place heading into Tuesday’s final round after shooting 308-316=624. Host Middle Tennessee holds a three-stroke lead heading into the final day in the 16-team tournament after shooting 296-293 (589) Monday.

“Jessica played really well today,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “She didn’t hit the ball the best but she got it up and down. In fact, I think her comment was she putted better today than she has putted in her life.

“In the first round for her to finish at even she played the last two holes at 2-under to get to even (par). She worked hard all day and is just one off the lead—she is back to where she belongs.”

The Lady Govs were able to count four sub-80 scores in opening round but had to count a plus-80 in the afternoon round. Amber Bosworth, coming off her best tournament in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, shot 79-79=158 as did fellow sophomore Morgan Gardner. Sophomore Morgan Kauffman shot an opening-round 78 but stumbled to an 84 in the afternoon for a 168 total. A fourth sophomore, Kelsey Schutt, struggled to an 84-89 day.

“I was as proud of Morgan Gardner today as I was of Jessica,” Robson said. “They are playing this course and 6,389 yards—it is much longer than last year. It is an extremely long course for Morgan Gardner. She has been working very hard on her short game and it is paying off. She made something like 16 up-and-downs today.

“Amber played really well most of the time. She was played really well in the second round until she got to the 14th hole and that got her into trouble.”
