Geek The Library Campaign kicks off at Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library is kicking off our “Geek the Library” campaign to raise awareness about the importance of your local library. Get ready to add a new verb to your vocabulary—“geek.”

Everyone is passionate about something—whether it’s superheroes, art or composting. What you love is what you “geek.” Here at the library, we geek serving others, providing free books, movies, music, and children’s services to our community, and encouraging life-long learning both through our physical collection and in the virtual world through online resources–just to name a few things.

The library will be hosting an invitation-only interactive Geek Open House on October 30th to highlight the numerous services provided on a daily basis to the people of Montgomery County.

Invitees include the County Mayor, County Commissioners, community leaders and local business people.

The “Geek” campaign is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and was created to spark conversation regarding the importance of libraries and the crucial role libraries take on in providing technology and other resources to local communities.

Did you know that the library circulated over 650,000 physical items last year? In addition to this, we circulated over 68,000 digital e-books and e-audiobooks. Imagine if library customers had to pay to rent these items
through Redbox or Amazon?

While most people have visited their public library and understand its important role in their community, many do not know that local support for libraries is heavily influenced by community members.

This public awareness campaign hopes to start a conversation about what your local public library can do for you and inspire more people to take personal responsibility for keeping their local public library vital. We also want to show the community that having a library card can save you money, time, and help you pursue your passions and goals. We are more than just books and encourage everyone to get a library card and see what today’s library can do for you.

So, get ready, set, geek! Throughout the next several months the Geek campaign will have a presence at various places in the community, on billboards, through social media, and of course, at your local library—the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library.
