The youthful Governors were led by sophomore Daniel Hamm‘s 47th place finish, with a 26:25.00 mark over the eight-kilometer course. Hamm has led the Govs in five out of six races in 2014.

Following Hamm were his classmates Kyle Harmon (59th, 27:02.44) and Hunter Guthrie (60th, 27:03.54).

They were followed by sophomores Alex Haycraft (65th, 27:26.54) Nathan Sparks (71st, 27:56.56) who rounded out the scoring five. Also competing for the Govs was senior Thomas Owen (78th, 28:58.70)

“Our lack of depth caught up with us today,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “It is very hard to compete in such a deep conference with such a young team.  We have to and will get better.”

Eastern Kentucky won its ninth consecutive men’s championship, and its 23rd overall, with a perfect team score of 15. Morehead State (90) and SIU Edwardsville (93) claimed second and third places while Belmont (97) and Eastern Illinois (109) rounded out the top five.

Southeast Missouri (109), Tennessee Tech (181) and Murray State (222) finished ahead of the Govs.  UT Martin (297), Jacksonville State (301) and Tennessee State (382) rounded out the field.

The Governors return to action at the NCAA South Regional held November 14th, in Tallahassee, FL.
