Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for November 2nd, 2014

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: School is out Come Play, Winter Gym Program, 55th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade Seeks Entries, Deep Water Aerobics and Christmas on the Cumberland Grand Opening Scheduled.

School is out, Come Play

The Indoor Aquatic Center and the City’s three community centers will adjust their hours of operation Tuesday, November 4th and 11th to accommodate students in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and their holiday schedule.

The Indoor Aquatic Center will be open for lap swim only from 6:30am to 9:00am and then to the public from 9:00am to 8:00pm. The inflatable obstacle course, The Aqua Run Wibit, and the AquaClimb climbing wall will be available. Wristbands are required for access to these features. Cost of wristbands is $2.00 for all day access; except for on Wednesdays, when Wibit access is always free with paid admission.

The City’s three community centers: Burt-Cobb, Crow, and Kleeman will be open from 10:00am to 7:00pm. Visitors can enjoy access to the facility’s basketball courts, game rooms, computer labs and more! A community center ID is required. Cost for a center ID is only $5.00 per person and is valid at all three centers for an entire year!

Winter Gym Program Kicks off November 10th

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System have partnered together to provide a winter gymnasium program at Byrns-Darden Elementary School.

Beginning Monday, November 10th, youth and adults ages 13 and up are welcome to participate in FREE play basketball every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening from 6 to 9:00pm, through March 19th, 2015. Participants register on-site. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

55th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade Seeks Entries

This year’s parade, proudly presented by the City of Clarksville, the Montgomery County Government, and U.S. Bank, will take place Saturday, December 6th at 5:00pm in Downtown Clarksville.

This event gives local businesses, schools, and organizations the opportunity to showcase their Christmas spirit to the Clarksville community. This year’s theme is “A Storybook Christmas”. Interested in participating? Entry forms are available at the Parks & Recreation office, online at www.cityofclarksville.com/parade and www.mcgtn.org . Deadline to enter is December 4th.

Deep Water Aerobics

The Indoor Aquatic Center now offers a low-impact exercise class as an alternative to the usual land workout that may be too jarring or painful to some.

Classes are open to adults ages 18 and up and are held every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:00pm to 5:45pm. Cost per class is $2.00 with a membership, $4.00 without. Register online today at recpro.cityofclarksville.com

Christmas on the Cumberland Grand Opening Scheduled

Join us, along with U.S. Bank, for the official lighting of over one million lights, Tuesday, November 25th at 6:30pm at McGregor Park. Features include free hot chocolate and appearances by special guests!

Christmas on the Cumberland, the popular lighted, walk-through event will be open nightly November 25th-January 3rd. Event hours are 5:00pm to 10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday and 5:00pm to 11:00pm on Friday and Saturday. Throughout the event there will be several weekend opportunities for children and their families to participate in fun, free activities.
