Freeman finished the night with 20 points, missing his final shot, a jumper with 1:24 left. More importantly he grabbed five second-half rebounds and help a Govs’ defense that limited to 33 percent (6 of 18) second-half shooting.

In fact, the Govs trailed at halftime 32-20 and found themselves down 37-30 early in the second half. Still trailing 39-35, a scrappy defense plus three Freeman buckets and two Ed Dyson three pointers sparked a 15-0 run to give APSU a 50-39 with 12:04 left. Dyson finished the night 3-of-4 in three-point attempts while scoring 15 points.

The Governors maintained a double-digit lead much of the game’s remainder, although Bryan sliced the deficit to eight points with 4:41 remaining. But Freeman recorded a dunk and Zavion Williams nailed two free throws to put away the contest.

Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference choice Chris Horton blocked seven shots for the Govs while dishing out four assists and scoring nine points.

But Horton struggled some guarding 6-2 front court player Brandon Cole, who came in averaging 45 points per game in the first three outings. The burly Bryan center displayed his offense wares by scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds Oteriah Lee was the only other double-figure scorer with 12 points.

Bryan out-rebound the Govs 36-27 but were undone by 27 turnovers, 18 in the second half when the Govs turned around their fortunes. Those 27 turnovers resulted in 16 APSU steals.
