Hillary Plybon named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior middle blocker Hillary Plybon, of the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Plybon led the Lady Govs to a pair of Ohio Valley Conference wins last weekend, putting them at 7-5 in the conference during 2014. She recorded double-digit kills in both matches and now has three straight double-digit kill outings after having none prior to this stretch, battling through lower-body injuries earlier in 2014.

The Orrville, Ohio native recorded 23 total kills and just two attack errors on the weekend, with her 13 kills against Jacksonville State equaling the team-high.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Senior Jessica Gray, of the cross country team, was Austin Peay’s top finisher at the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships with a 25th-place, 18:28.46 run at the Oxford Lake and Recreation Center, improving her personal-best eight-kilometer time by 32 seconds.
  • Senior defensive back Buddy Mitchell, of the football team, recorded a career-high 13 tackles along with two tackles for loss in the Govs loss at nationally-ranked Jacksonville State, Saturday.
  • Sophomore forward Gina Fabbro, of the women’s soccer team, scored a goal and added an assist in the Lady Govs season finale against Belmont, tying her for sixth in single-season goals with seven and fourth in career goals at 14.
