Clarksville, TN – Fans dressed in all the local high school colors filled seats at the APSU Dunn Center to watch the 2014 CMCSS basketball jamboree. Both boys and girls teams hit the hardwood for their first chance to compete against other teams Thursday evening.
The girls got things started. The Lady Vikings opened the jamboree with a 15-12 victory over the Montgomery Central Lady Indians.
The Lady Indians struggled offensively, scoring only two points in the first eight minute period and scoring four of their first six points from the free throw line. A 6-0 run tied the game with 2:06 remaining. But the Lady Vikings sealed the game from the free throw line, making 3-of-6 down the stretch.The Lady Vikings totaled 5-of-9 from the free throw line. Five different Lady Vikings scored in the game.
Megan Thompson led the team with 5 points.
Amanda Keck made the free throw that broke the 12-12 tie with less than two minutes remaining. Keck scored three points and pulled down seven rebounds. Jashia Huey also scored three points.
Lindsay Lafferty led the Lady Indians with five points. Brooke Christy scored four points. Christy tied the game with 2:06 left on the clock. She grabbed a rebound and was fouled putting the ball back up for the score. Afterwards she converted the three-point play to tie the score at 12. However, it was the last points the Indians would score.
The Lady Indians had opportunities to tie or win the game late, but could not make their free throws. They converted only 6-of-12 from the stripe and shot 0-of-2 in the last minutes of the game.
