Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – The second signee of the fall signing period is a familiar face to the Austin Peay State University baseball coaching staff. Parker Phillips, of Collierville, TN has signed to join the Govs in 2015.

Phillips, a 6-4, 235-pound infielder, will complete his prep career at Collierville High School under head coach Jeff Hopkins.

He played first and third base at Collierville, batting .393 with eight home runs and 55 RBI as a junior. While batting for power he also showed great plate discipline, recording 41 walks against 27 strikeouts and was hit by pitch 26 times for a .532 on-base percentage.

Austin Peay’s campus will not be unfamiliar to Phillips, who grew up in the Clarksville area before his family moved to Maryville and alter to Memphis. His father, Kris, is an Austin Peay graduate who also has ties to the athletic department.

Phillips played first base as part of Collierville’s first 3A state championship squad, earning 2013 All-State honors. He was named to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Freshman/Sophomore State Team and its Showcase team as a sophomore and junior. Phillips also played in the Sunbelt Classic, helping the TBCA squad finish fourth in 2013 and runner-up in 2014.

“Parker can help us immediately in the middle of our lineup,” said Gary McClure. “He has power and good discipline at the plate and has done that against good competition, which we like. Parker is a big strong man, but he has some tools and is athletic for his size. He can catch, play first and third base and possibly even in the outfield without any trouble. We’re looking for him to help us in the infield and see where it goes from there.”

By signing Phillips, Austin Peay continues its recent string of signing players associated with the Dulin Dodgers club team under coach Julian Henson. He will join John Sparks and Jake Durham from last season’s signing class, sophomores Chase Hamilton, Garrett Copeland, Shane Lantigua and Ridge Smith from the 2013 class and Hunter Lindley from the 2012 signing class.
