Austin Peay (14-18, 8-8 OVC) finished the season tied for sixth place and will enter the OVC Volleyball Championship as the No. 7 seed.

The Lady Govs will face No. 2 seed Belmont in a 12:30pm, Thursday contest at Racer Arena in Murray, Kentucky, which can be viewed on the OVC Digital Network.

Eastern Kentucky (21-14, 11-5 OVC), which finished third in the OVC race, won the opening set in wire-to-wire fashion, posting a 16-10 edge in kills.

APSU's Hillary PlybonAustin Peay and Eastern Kentucky then engaged in a set-long battle in the second frame, with 15 ties and six lead changes. Senior Hillary Plybon changed the tide of the set with a kill to give APSU a 25-24 lead then added back-to-back kills to secure a 27-25 victory. Austin Peay claimed the set thanks to a 18-16 edge in kills.

The Colonels nearly ran away with the third set, breaking out to a 7-3 lead and slowly edging out to a seven-point, 22-15 margin. But Plybon and senior Jada Stotts combined for five straight kills to take over the momentum. Plybon then recorded back-to-back kills again to tie the set 23-23.

APSU's Jada StottsBoth teams would have set point chances in overtime but it was ultimately consecutive EKU attack errors that handed APSU the 28-26 win.

Eastern Kentucky gained control of the fourth set with a 5-0 run sparked by kills from Rachel Vick, Abbey Cvelbar and Ally Peters, that gave EKU a 15-10 lead. The Colonels pushed the lead to eight points, 21-13, then never looked back to post the 25-20 win.

The fifth set was decided early as Eastern Kentucky jumped out to an 8-1 lead, scoring four kills and getting four points off APSU errors. Austin Peay recorded just two kills in the set and committed seven attack errors, dropping the final set 15-6.

APSU's Aubrey Marsellis“We battled against a tough team on the road,” said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. “We came up on the short end today. We will take what we did well, build on it and move on to the OVC Tournament.”

Plybon led Austin Peay with 16 kills and a .406 attack percentage. Stotts and setter Aubrey Marsellis each had 12 kills. Austin Peay recorded 59 kills in the match, but poor outings in the fourth and fifth frames dropped it to a .151 attack percentage.

Eastern Kentucky’s Alexis Plagens led all hitters with 21 kills. Vick added 15 kills while Peters finished with 12. The Colonels recorded 70 kills in the win and posted a .228 attack percentage.
