The award is Horton’s second from the OVC in his Austin Peay career and comes on the heels of his triple-double – the fourth in program history and just the 10th in conference history – against Berea, Sunday.

The Decatur, GA., native had 15 points, 13 rebounds and a school-record 10 blocked shots, leading the Govs to a 68-63 win against the Mountaineers.

Horton’s triple-double was the first since Austin Peay Hall of Famer and former NBA player Trenton Hassell in 2001, and the first by an OVC player since Murray State’s Isaac Miles in 2009. His 10 blocked shots were part of 17 recorded by the Govs on Sunday – an APSU single-game school record.

In the Govs’ season-opener at Western Kentucky, Horton had 15 points and four blocks while also holding George Fant, a preseason All-Conference USA selection, to just six points and five rebounds.

Through two games, Horton is averaging 15 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.0 blocks – the last mark leading the OVC after the first weekend. He also passed a personal milestone Sunday by recording his 200th career blocked shot.

The Govs continue the regular season with a 7:00pm, Wednesday outing at Samford.
