Saturday, November 22nd, 2014 | 11:00am CST
Clarksville, TN | Winfield Dunn Center
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s basketball team will play its earliest game of the season when it hosts Grand Canyon in an 11:00am, Saturday contest at the Dunn Center.
The Lady Govs enter Saturday’s morning affair seeking their season’s first victory.
Austin Peay has opened the season with a pair of single-digit losses, including a four-point, 72-68 loss at Evansville, Sunday.Freshman guard Madison Rich made a big impact against the Purple Aces, scoring a game-high 21 points, thanks to a 4-of-6 performance from three-point range.
In addition, sophomore center Tearra Banks returned to the lineup with a splash, posting a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double that also included career highs in blocks (5) and steals (4).
Austin Peay has battled offensive inconsistency in its first two outings. The Lady Govs opened the Evansville contest making just two of its first 19 shots from the floor, but went 24-for-55 (43.6 percent) the rest of the way.
APSU returns four starters among 10 letterwinners from last season’s squad. That group includes the Lady Govs top five in both scoring and rebounding.
Despite the large number of returnees, the projected APSU starting five includes one senior, one junior and three sophomores – still a relatively young squad.
About the Antelopes
Grand Canyon was picked to finish sixth in the Western Athletic Conference’s preseason coaches poll… The Antelopes finished third in the WAC last season with a 21-9 overall mark and 10-6 league record… However, GCU lost 85 percent of its scoring total and nearly 80 percent of its minutes played due to graduation.

Lady Govs vs. The WAC
This is not Austin Peay’s first experience against a current member of the Western Athletic Conference. The Lady Govs are 3-3 against current WAC members, including a 1-0 record against Utah Valley, a 1-1 record against UMKC and a 1-2 mark against Chicago State.
In addition, the Lady Govs have the possibility of facing Utah Valley during their trip to Montana in December.
An Austin Peay Win Would
Snap a four-game home losing streak, dating back to January 30th, 2014… End its eight-game losing streak carried over from the 2013-14 season… Stop a nine-game losing streak to nonconference opponents… Improve Carrie Daniels’ record to 89-159 overall… Make the Lady Govs 442-632 overall since 1976-77.
An Austin Peay Loss Would
Be its fifth straight home loss… Extend its overall losing streak to nine games… Be its 10th-straight nonconference loss… Drop Daniels’ record to 88-160 overall… Make the Lady Govs 441-633 overall since 1976-77.
