Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Sophomore center Tearra Banks, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Banks averaged 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds for Austin Peay against Grand Canyon and Chattanooga, leading the Lady Govs to their season’s first victory Saturday against the Antelopes. From the floor, Banks hit 17-for-32 (53.1 percent) in the two contests.

The Louisville, KY, native put up a career-high 22 points against the ‘Lopes, shooting 9-for-15 from the floor and finishing a rebound shy of her first-ever 20-10 outing, leading five Lady Govs in double figures.

Banks was a large part of Austin Peay’s success in the paint on both ends of the floor – the Lady Govs averaged 34 points in the paint in two contests and held Grand Canyon to just 18 points inside.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Freshman outside hitter Christina White, of the volleyball team, tied for the team lead with a dozen kills in the Lady Govs loss to Belmont in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
  • Senior defensive end Nii Lartey, of the football team, led the Govs with a career-best 12 tackles (seven solo), adding three for a loss including a safety in the Govs season finale and Lartey’s Senior Day against Tennessee Tech.
  • Junior center Chris Horton, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 12.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in three games for the Govs last week, including a 22-point, 12-rebound, 4-block performance at Samford, Wednesday.
