2014 Thanksgiving Message from Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – One of the things that makes Clarksville such a great place to live, work and raise our families is the way our people come together to help.

Every year, I am amazed by the generosity I see in every corner of our community.  We are a group of people who care about each other, encourage each other and help each other.

Last week, I had a wonderful time reading with Ms. Rone’s first grade class at Sango Elementary School.  Before we began, a group of adult volunteer readers gathered in the school’s media center.  Among those volunteers was a large contingent from Fort Campbell.

Once again, I was reminded of the unique role Fort Campbell families have in our community.  Just a few miles from the heart of Clarksville, they train and prepare.  Around the world they teach others to be professional soldiers as they work to keep our own borders secure.  In our schools, they read to our children.  They go wherever they need to go to do whatever we ask them to do to keep us safe.

As we gather together with friends and family this Thanksgiving holiday, I am very thankful for the work they do for our nation and in our community.  We are strong because they are brave.  And I am ever mindful that each of our men and women in uniform have volunteered to serve.

Clarksville is a growing community with a well-deserved reputation for kindness and a welcoming attitude.  We are fortunate to have a strong foundation to build on and part of that foundation is Fort Campbell.  While we cannot know what changes and challenges may be ahead for the installation, we can assure the soldiers stationed here, and their families, that they are appreciated for their contributions to our community – in uniform and as our neighbors.

This Thanksgiving holiday, I am grateful for every person who lives and works in Clarksville and for the continued prosperity we can realize together.  I am humbled and honored to serve as your Mayor for another four years and I appreciate your energy, vision and encouragement as we move forward together.

From my family to yours, my best wishes for a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
