Montgomery Central Lady Indians buried under 11 3s by Greenbrier in 65-28 loss

Montgomery Central High SchoolServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – Montgomery Central High School’s girls basketball team remained winless on the season after seeing Greenbrier High School knocking down 11 shots from behind the three-point arc, Monday, December 1st at the Thomas-Young Gymnasium, as the Lady Indians fell to the Lady Bobcats 65-28.

The foreshadowing of what was to come against the Lady Indians (0-5) started right off the bat, as the first three baskets made by Greenbrier (6-2) on the night came from behind the arc – with Amanda Bennett getting things going, while Kayla Jerrell banged in back-to-back 3s to give the Lady Bobcats an 9-2 lead 4:30 into the game.

Bennett would lead all scorers with 22 points, while Jerrell added 15 points.

Janie Smith would try to keep the Lady Indians close early-on, scoring Montgomery Central’s first seven points, in cutting the Greenbrier lead down to just four points, 11-7, with 2:35 left in the opening quarter.

Smith would lead the Lady Indians with 12 points.

But that would be as close as the Lady Indians would get, with Greenbrier closing out the first eight minutes of play by outscoring Montgomery Central 7-2 over the final 1:37 to hold a 18-9 advantage after one quarter of play.

The second quarter would see Brooke Christy hit the Lady Indians lone three of the night to open the period, making it a six-point game, but six straight points by Greenbrier – including back-to-back steals and layups by Katlin Sanford — pushed the lead out to the largest spread of the first half, 24-12.

Montgomery Central wouldn’t get any closer than nine points the rest of the way, with Greenbrier holding a 31-16 lead at halftime.

The second half wouldn’t get any better for MCHS, with the Lady Bobcats matching their three three-point field goals to start the game with three 3s to start the third quarter and build their lead out to 24 points with 4:46 left in the period.

Montgomery Central would match the Lady Bobcats the rest of the way in the third quarter, but headed into the final eight minutes of play down 22 points, 48-26.

The Lady Indians didn’t have much left as they went into the fourth quarter, with the Lady Bobcats outscoring Montgomery Central 17-2 over the final eight minutes of play – with the lone points scored by MCHS came off a bucket by Lindsay Lafferty, at the 4:19 mark of the period.
