Clarksville Police reports Car Drives into Cumberland River at McGregor Park boat ramp

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On Thursday, December 4th, 2014, at 6:18pm, two District Two Patrol Officers of the Clarksville Police Department observed a red car with an out-of-state license plate parked near the McGregor Park boat ramp at 640 North Riverside Drive. There appeared to be one occupant in the vehicle.

The officers approached the driver to determine his welfare. The driver immediately started the car and drove down the boat ramp into the Cumberland River

Both officers went into the water in an unsuccessful attempt to rescue the individual.

Personnel on a towboat anchored across the river launched a small boat and attempted to assist, but they lost sight of the car when it filled and went under the water. The two officers are uninjured.

Clarksville Fire/Rescue and the Montgomery County Rescue Squad have both launched boats in an attempt to locate the car with side-scan sonar.
