Clarksville High Wildcats defense shines in 58-45 District 10-AAA victory over Rossview Hawks

Clarksville High School WildcatsServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s boys basketball team would hold the Rossview High School offense to just 13 first-half points and 23 total points through three quarters, Friday, December 5th on its way to a 58-45 District 10-AAA victory.

The Wildcats (4-4, 1-1 District 10-AAA) didn’t fare much better early-on, as they only managed three points over the first 6:17 of the game, before taking the lead for good, 5-4, on a jumper by Tariq Silver – with 1:43 left in the opening period.

Silver would finish with 11 points.

Clarksville High would lead the Hawks (4-3, 0-2 District 10-AAA) 8-6 after the first quarter and extend that lead out to nine points, 17-8, after holding Rossview to just two points over the first 6:07 of the period.

Rossview would close the gap as the two teams headed into intermission, with the Hawks getting a three from Jay Glenn and a two-point field goal from Cannon Campbell to see Clarksville High take a six-point advantage into intermission, 19-13.

Campbell would lead all scorers with 17 points.

Cameron Stiff would open the second half with four quick points for the Wildcats to give them their first double-figure lead of the game, 23-13, with 6:43 left in the period.

Clarksville High would extend that lead out to 12 points, 27-15, before Javon Vaughn would knock down a pair of 3s for Rossview to make it 29-21, with 4:02 left.

Vaughn would finish the game with 11 points.

The Wildcats would respond by closing the quarter by outscoring the Hawks 8-2 and taking a 14-point advantage into the final eight minutes of play, 37-23.

But Rossview wouldn’t go down without a fight.

Still trailing by 14 points, 40-26, with 6:06 left in the game; Campbell would score seven straight points over a span of 1:23 to get the Hawks back to within seven points, 40-33, with 4:27 left.

But that would be as close as the Hawks would get the rest of the way, with the Wildcats pushing their lead back out to 13 points, 49-36, with 1:35 left.

A bucket by Cannon and two free throws from Isaiah Phillips got the Hawks back to within nine points, but Clarksville High sealed away the game by hitting five-of-six free throws and getting baskets from JJ Jones and Avery Bates to come away with the 13-point victory, 58-45.

Jones finished with 12 points for Clarksville High.
