Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for December 21st, 2014

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Queen City Road Race T-shirt contest, New Year’s Eve Splash, Winter Gym, and 3rd Annual Chocolate Affair.

New Years Eve Splash

Queen City Road Race T-shirt contest for kids

Calling all budding artists in grades 1st through 5th: Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Queen City Road Race T-shirt design contest is back and the best drawing will be featured on the official 2015 Queen City Road Race T-shirt!

First prize: An official Queen City Road Race T-shirt featuring your design, framed poster of your drawing, $100.00 and a Subway party for your art class, art supplies and certificate.

Finalists (3): Subway party for your art class, art supplies and certificate.

Semi-finalists (2 per participating school): Art supplies and certificate.

For a detailed list of the Queen City Road Race T-shirt design contest rules, please visit www.cityofclarksville.com/qcrr but here are a couple of really important bits of information to help you get started:

  1. Your drawing must be submitted by January 9th — so get going.
  2. Your drawing may be done using any medium, although there is a 5 color use maximum.
  3. Drawing must be on 8 ½ x 11 paper or canvas; no construction paper, please.

Indoor Aquatic Center to host New Year’s Eve Splash

Ring in the New Year at the Indoor Aquatic Center’s 3rd annual New Year’s Eve Splash! Join us from 8:30pm to 12:30am on Monday, December 31st. Party-goers can enjoy music, refreshments and free access to “The Aqua Run” wibit and “The Aqua Climb” climbing wall. Admission is $3.00.

Event is open to all ages. Minors ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian after 10:00pm.

Winter Gym

Provides Community with Recreational Basketball Free Play

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has partnered once again with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to provide an opportunity for recreational basketball free play, known as Winter Gym at Byrns-Darden Elementary, located at 609 East Street. The gymnasium is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm through March 19th, 2015.

Program is open to all ages, although participants ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Admission is free, and you can register on-site!

Tickets on sale now for the 3rd Annual Chocolate Affair

Join the City of Clarksville and Planters Bank for the 3rd Annual Chocolate Affair, Saturday, February 7th at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. The event will feature sweet and savory treats from local businesses.

Family-friendly entertainers and activities will fill the 2:00pm to 4:00pm event, while an adult soiree with dancing will round out the evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Tickets are $15.00 per person and may be purchased online at www.cityofclarksville.com/chocolate or in person at the Parks and Recreation main office located at 102 Public Square.
