Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Clarksville Celebrates Christmas

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Big Brothers, Big Sisters held their annual Christmas party for their Littles and Bigs at The Pinnacle Bowling Alley on Saturday December 6th.

When I arrived, Amy Carroll, the executive director of Big Brothers, Big Sisters was busy handing out shoes to the arriving bowlers. She spoke with my between helping the new arrivals, “It got a little hectic because everybody started showing up at the same time, so I just came back here behind the counter and started handing out shoes.” She quipped, “I’m no stranger to bowling alleys.”

I asked her to talk a little about what they were doing and she said, “We are having a Christmas party for Littles and Bigs that are in Big Brothers and Big Sisters. We have probably about 150 of our participants in the programs which includes our Littles, which are kids ages 6 to 15; Their volunteers; and the parents and some of the family members.”

She continued, “They are bowling, Santa will be making a visit very soon; which is when it will get very chaotic as it always is. They are eating and bowling so they are all having a good time!”

“This is my favorite event of the year for the kids,” said Carroll. “Because they get to come together and have a great time visiting with each other. Everybody that comes today will get a Big Brothers, Big Sisters shirt, we give that to all of our family members, children, and volunteers who, as a way to show our appreciation!”

I asked her how the year had gone for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and she responded; “We have had a fabulous year! We have seen an increase in volunteers, which has been wonderful! We still have a need for male volunteers; especially male volunteers of color. Minority children are still our largest group on the waiting list. That’s where our greatest need is right now! We have many children still waiting for their Bigs, and they fall in the ranges from age 6 to age 15. And we can always use them. “

Bowl for Kids Sake will be March 2nd for the Bankers Challenge, and on March 7th for the main event will be held right here at the Pinnacle. “We expect that to be a great event and it’s a wonderful fundraiser for us.” said Carroll.

She wanted to thank the owners and staff of the Pinnacle for all the help they give the organization throughout the year. “I cannot thank the owners and management here for their generosity, It seems that when ever we ask, they always say yes! Opening up their doors to us, letting us come in, and kind of taking over! It’s not every business that will step up and do that!”
