Clarksville, TN – Senior guard Kristen Stainback, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Stainback averaged 20.5 points on 15-for-31 shooting last week as the Lady Govs closed non-conference action with a loss at Central Arkansas before opening Ohio Valley Conference play with a road win at Eastern Kentucky.
Stainback also drilled nine three-pointers and averaged 4.0 assists on the week.
She saved her best performance for the conference opener, scoring a season-high 26 points thanks to a highly-efficient 9-for-13 from the floor and 6-for-9 from beyond the arc.She keyed Austin Peay’s comeback win against the Colonels with back-to-back three-pointers to take Austin Peay’s lead from four points to 10 points in a contest the Lady Govs would eventually win by 10.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included
- Freshman center Brianne Alexander, of the women’s basketball team, scored 13 points in her debut, hitting 71.4 percent (5-for-7) at Central Arkansas. In her first career start at Eastern Kentucky, she finished with eight points and five rebounds, adding a block and a steal for good measure.
- Senior forward Chris Freeman, of the men’s basketball team, notched a career-high 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting as the Govs closed out 2014 with a 65-60 win against North Florida. Freeman added a 12-point, six-rebound, two-block outing in the Govs non-conference finale at Ole Miss.
