Northeast Lady Eagles keep hot streak going with 63-50 win over Kenwood Lady Knights

Northeast High School EaglesServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – After only winning two of its first 13 games, Northeast High School’s girls basketball team has run its current win streak to six games, Tuesday, January 13th, as the Lady Eagles picked up a 63-50 District 10-AAA victory over Kenwood High School.

But more importantly for the Lady Eagles it’s the third straight district win for Northeast, as they move over .500 in the district standings at 4-3, while improving to 8-11 overall.

The game would turn Northeast’s way early-on in the third quarter when Michelle Donner and Jazzmym Simpson knocked down two three-point field goals each during a 16-5 run, as the Lady Eagles’ advantage went from 29-27 – at the 6:45 mark in the quarter – to 45-32, with 2:53 left.

Both Donner and Simpson would finish the game with 15 points each for the Lady Eagles.

Kenwood (5-14, 2-5 District 10-AAA) would cut the Northeast lead back to eight by the end of the quarter, with Katie Robards scoring the final five points of the period – including a three right before the buzzer to make it a 45-37.

Robards would lead Kenwood in scoring with 15 points.

But that would be as close as the Lady Knights would get the rest of the way, with Northeast scoring the first three points of the fourth quarter to go up 11 with 6:17 left in the game and Kenwood never getting closer than nine points after that.

In the first half, the two teams would trade the lead back-and-fourth four times in the game’s first 3:36 before Northeast scored six straight points to go up 11-5, with 2:19 left in the opening period.

Kenwood responded with an 8-2 run to take its final lead of the quarter, 13-12, following a bucket by Mikeala Smith with 24 seconds left, before Simpson tied the game on a free throw with 3.1 seconds left.

The second quarter would see a couple more lead changes in the first minute of the game – including the Lady Knights final lead of the game, 15-14, after a basket by Analiese Osborne.

But a bucket by Kayla Bradley started 5-0 by Northeast, as the Lady Eagles took a 19-15 and never trailed again in the contest.

Both teams continue district play on January 16th, with the Lady Eagles hosting Clarksville High School and the Lady Knights welcoming Henry County High School.

Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 6:00pm.
