West Creek Lady Coyotes deal Rossview Lady Hawks First District Loss, 38-34

West Creek High School Coyotes - Clarksville, TNServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – The reigning regular season and district tournament champion Rossview Lady Hawks (11-5, 6-1) had been soaring in district play, remaining undefeated so far this season until Tuesday night. On the road at West Creek High School, the Lady Coyotes dealt the Lady Hawks their first District 10-AAA loss, 38-34.

After leading the entire first half, the Lady Hawks offense stalled in the third quarter. They committed six turnovers and scored only one point. The Lady Coyotes pounced on the opportunity and took over the game. The Lady Hawks tried to mount a comeback in the last minute of the game, but the Lady Coyotes held them off by making their free throws down the stretch.

The Lady Coyotes scored 10 of their 12 fourth quarter points on the free throw line. They shot a perfect 10-of-10 from the stripe in the quarter. They finished the game making 13-of-16 free throws.

After scoring only one point in the third quarter, the Lady Hawks went into the fourth trailing 22-26. A 6-0 run by the Lady Coyotes had them ahead 34-26 with one minute left in the game. Mickey Head made a 3-pointer with 40 seconds on the clock. Then, after a Lady Coyote turnover, Samajia Ogburn grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back to cut the lead to three points, 34-31, with 32 seconds remaining.

Ariana Prather made two free throws after being fouled two seconds later to increase the Lady Coyotes lead, 36-31. Afterwards, the Lady Hawks failed to score until the clock wound down to four seconds. Liz Quinio made a 3-pointer to make the score 36-34.

The Lady Hawks fouled Shayla Smith, who made two more free throws and put the game out of the Lady Hawks reach, 38-34.

Smith and Prather both scored 14 points. Tyisaha Worthy scored eight and Madison Kurtz added two. The Lady Hawks were held to their second lowest point total so far this season.

They started the game strong. Jemiah Harrison scored six straight points in an opening 10-3 run. They went on to outscore the Lady Coyotes 12-7 in the first quarter and maintained their lead throughout the first half, but the Lady Coyotes lingered in striking distance, 21-17.

Harrison and Head both scored eight points. Ogburn added six points with six rebounds. The Lady Hawks made three, 3-pointers in the game and shot 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

The win breaks a two-game losing streak and improves the Lady Coyotes (8-7) to 4-3 in the district, just two games behind the Lady Hawks.
