Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Hoping to find a cure for it offensive ills at home, Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will seek its first Ohio Valley Conference victory by playing host to Tennessee State, 7:30pm, Thursday, in Dave Aaron Arena.

Austin Peay Men's Basketball return home to Dunn Center to take on Tennessee State.

The Governors enter the contest 0-2 in OVC play and 5-11 overall, but the more disturbing aspect of the Govs three-game losing streak has been an offense that has failed to score more than 60 points in each of those contests.

The Govs also have failed to shoot more than 40 percent in each of those games.

But more frustrating to head coach Dave Loos has been APSU’s inability to take care of the basketball. The Govs committed a total of 37 turnovers during the OVC-opening weekend, including a season-high 21 against Tennessee Tech.

“We have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball,” Loos said. “We can’t keep turning it over like we did most recently. Those are missed shot opportunities, chances to score the basketball.”

Although this is Game No. 17, it only will be the Govs’ sixth home game.

“It will be good to be at home, a chance to play in front of the home crowd,” Loos said. “These (home) games are very important—you have to protect your home court.”

Tennessee State, picked to finish last in the OVC East, comes in with an extremely young team, starting multiple freshmen. As a result, the Tigers are 3-15 on the season and 0-3 in the OVC. However, the Tigers went on the road last weekend and played SIUE close before home team pulled out a 45-38 victory in the closing minutes.

Guard Jay Harris, the team’s only senior, is the only Tiger averaging double figures at 10.3 ppg. The Tigers have started as many as five freshmen. Junior guard Marcus Roper is at 9.9 ppg while 6-9, 230-pound freshman forward/center Christian Mekowulu is at 7.7 ppg and 6.7 rpg.
