As often happens, junior Breigh Jones was the story on Friday.

The Memphis native was the top collegiate finisher in the 400m dash with a 56.28 mark, qualifying second overall out of 92 competitors for Saturday’s final, scheduled to run at 4:45pm (ET).

Jones also qualified for the final in Saturday’s 200m dash – her 24.79 mark was just four-hundredths of her personal-best and places her seventh for Saturday’s 5:45pm (ET) final.

Junior Kymmalett Ross had terrible luck on Friday. The Eureka, CA, native just missed qualifying for the finals in the 200m (25.02, 10th) and the 60m (7.73m 12th) events. She was less than two-tenths of a second from qualifying in the 200m and finished one-tenth of second off the pace in the 60m.

Ross and Jones both finishing in the top-10 in the 200m made Austin Peay one of three schools (North Carolina A&T and Alabama State) to put two runners in the top-10 of the 124-runner 200m field.

Three of Austin Peay’s jumps crew found their way into the top-eight in Friday’s triple jump, led by sophomore Chancis Jones. The Chattanooga native placed fourth with an 11.75m leap, followed by sophomore Kaylnn Pitts (fifth, 11.75m) and freshman Keyondria Ross (seventh, personal-best 11.59m).

Action picks up again beginning at 8:00am (ET), Saturday.
