It was a long night for the Lady Coyotes. Both they and the Lady Hawks got off to a slow start. However, the Hawks found their offense in the second quarter and soared the rest of the game. Conversely, the Lady Coyotes struggled with the Lady Hawks full court press throughout the game. They had trouble both getting past half court and generating any shot attempts.

The Lady Coyotes made over 30 turnovers and failed to score from the field. They scored only two points the entire game, both by Myshanae Lowe from the free throw line.

The Lady Coyotes shot 2-of-5 from the stripe and pulled down 16 rebounds. Keionna Gamble grabbed eight of those boards.

Eleven different Lady Hawks scored with none scoring double digit points. Macy Rippy was one of two Lady Hawks to score seven points. Devina Langarica and Rayanna Grant both scored five.

Rippy made one of the Lady Hawks two total 3-pointers as part of their five first quarter points. Lowe did not score the Lady Coyotes’ first point until the second quarter after a Lady Hawks 9-0 run. She scored the second point early in the third, making the score 17-2. From there it was all Lady Hawks until the end of the game.

The win advanced the Hawks to play the #2 Kenwood Lady Knights Tuesday, January 27th. The Lady Knights eliminated the New Providence Lady Mustangs.

The Sycamore Lady Knights and the Richview Lady Cowboys had the closest game on the first day of the tournament. At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Lady Knights led the Lady Cowboys by only four points, 27-23, but poor free throw shooting kept the Lady Cowboys from closing the gap.

The Lady Cowboys fouled late in the fourth quarter to slow the Lady Knights offense down and got help as the Lady Knights continued to foul them as well. However, the Lady Cowboys shot just 2-of-13 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Knights shot 7-of-11 from the free throw line and outscored the Lady Cowboys 14-10 in the fourth quarter. In addition to missing free throws down the stretch, the Lady Knights kept the Lady Cowboys off the boards, preventing second chance scoring opportunities.

Taylor Garrett and Kaitlyn Wofford grabbed the key rebounds for the Lady Knights. They were also the Lady Knights top scorers, doing most of the damage to the Lady Cowboys in the paint.

Garrett led all scorers with 15 points. Wofford scored 8. They were two of seven Lady Knight scorers. Seven Lady Cowboys scored as well. Scotti Harrison led the team with 14 points. Lucy Chilcutt and Molly Goins both scored four points.

The Lady Knights will play the top seeded Dickson Lady Dragons Tuesday, January 27th. The Lady Dragons eliminated the Montgomery Central Lady Indians in game one of the tournament.
