Bloomington, IN – A handful of athletes found their way into the top-five for Austin Peay State University track and field on the final day of competition at the Gladstein Invitational.
The day started promisingly, with a fourth-place showing by freshman Sonja White. The newcomer from nearby Northeast High School was fourth in the 21-runner field at 25.87, less than three-tenths of a second from a top-three finish.
Ross also had a hand in the Lady Govs fortunes during the 4x400m relay. She was joined by senior Jessica Gray, junior Breigh Jones and sophomore Terri Morris, with the quartet posting a season-best 3:49.47 mark to earn fourth-place honors.
Stepping away from her regular duties in the 400m event, Jones nonetheless posted a solid afternoon as an individual. In the 600m invitational run – a non-competed event at the NCAA Championships – Jones placed third with a school-record 1:32.69.
“The beat goes on with the Breigh Jones Show,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “I feel like what she did and what the relay team did got us going in the right direction again. Really pleased with the relay team, I thought they did a nice job and took some of the sting out of the day.”
After snagging an spot in the 800m invitational event, Gray finished sixth with a 2:18.31 run.
The Lady Govs return to action next weekend at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, WV; the two-day event begins Friday, January 30th.
“We have to get back where we were in December,” Molnar said. “It’s a process, but thankfully we’ve got about a month to right the ship.”
