Clarksville, TN – Rossview Middle School and Dickson Middle School had easy nights, Monday, January 26th at Kenwood High School, in the quarterfinal round of the Area 1 AAA Boys Basketball Tournament, with the Hawks defeating Sycamore Middle School 47-29 and the Dragons topped Richview Middle School, 46-24.
For Rossview Middle, the game turned its way midway through the opening quarter after falling behind the Knights 5-0 early-on.
A bucket by A.J. Reese, with 4:34 left in the first quarter, would start a 15-0 run that ended with a bucket by Sycamore Middle’s Dawson Yoes with seven seconds left to see the Hawks lead 15-7 after one quarter of play.Reese, who finished with a game-high 15 points, would have six points during the run.
Sycamore Middle would follow that final bucket of the opening quarter with the first seven points of the second period to cut the Rossview Middle lead down to just one point, 15-14 with 4:36 left in the opening half.
But the Hawks would only allow the Knights to score two more points in the opening half, while putting up 13 points over the final 4:27 to take a 28-16 advantage into intermission.
The second half would see the Hawks continue to roll, as they build their biggest lead of the game up to that point, at 17 points midway through the period, 33-16, and held that same 17-point lead at the end of the third quarter, 40-23.
The final quarter would see Sycamore Middle get as close as 12 points, 40-28, in the first three minutes of the period, but Rossview would close out the game by outscoring the Knights 7-1 over the final 3:53 to come away with the 47-29 final.
In the Dickson Middle, Richview Middle game, the outcome was settled early-on with the Dragons scoring the first 13 points of the opening quarter on its way to leading 18-4 after the first six minutes of play.
The Cowboys would play much better in the second and third quarters, as they would cut the Dickson Middle lead down to seven points, 27-20, with 37.5 seconds left in the third period.
But the Dragons closed out the quarter by scoring the final four points – including a three at the buzzer by D.J. Stacey – to take an 11-point advantage into the final six minutes of play, 31-20.
The Cowboys wouldn’t get any closer than 19 points the rest of the way, with Dickson Middle coming away with a 22-point victory over Richview Middle, 46-24.
With the wins, Rossview Middle and Dickson Middle will be matched up in the semifinals of the tournament at Kenwood High School on Tuesday, January 27th at 7:15pm, while Richview Middle and Sycamore Middle sees their seasons come to an end.
