Rossview Lady Hawks and Dickson Lady Dragons advance to Middle School Area 1-AAA Girls Basketball Tournament Finals

Rossview Middle SchoolServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – On the second day of the Middle School Girls Area 1-AAA Basketball Tournament at Kenwood High School Tuesday afternoon, the Dickson Lady Dragons and the Rossview Lady Hawks picked up their second wins and will go on to play each other in the finals Thursday, January 29th.

Ryan Roberts scored 23 points, leading the Lady Dragons’ roast of the Sycamore Lady Knights, 58-38. After a close first quarter, the Lady Dragons offense spread their wings in the second and simply overpowered the Lady Knights the rest of the game.

The Lady Knights committed 17 first half turnovers and shot just 6-of-15 from the field. After being down only 9-12 after the first quarter, they were buried 27 -16 by halftime.

Roberts scored 15 of her 23 points in the first half. In addition to her 23 points, she also grabbed four rebounds. Roberts was one of seven Lady Dragons to score in the game. K.K. Curtis scored all 10 of her points in the second half, including the Lady Dragons only 3-pointer. Olivia Rinehart added nine points.

Seven Lady Knights scored. Kaitlyn Wofford and Reagan Sutton both scored 11 points. Wofford pulled down four rebounds as well.

The closest the Lady Knights would get to the Lady Dragons in the second half is 14 points. Sutton made two free throws followed by a layup as part of a 6-2 run that made the score 36-50 in the fourth quarter. Afterwards the Lady Dragons outscored the Lady Dragons 8-2 to close the game.

With their second win, the Lady Dragons advanced to the finals averaging 53 points and defeating their opponents by an average of 28 points per game in the tournament.

Kenwood’s Kimia Carter scored 22 points, but it was not enough to overcome the Rossview Lady Hawks. Solid defense and a well executed offense let the Rossview Middle School Lady Hawks soar pass the Lady Knights, 59-36.

The Lady Knights started slow shooting just 2-of-10 from the field in the first quarter. Their shooting woes continued in the second. They shot 3-of-7 from the field and went 0 for 7 at the free throw line.

Conversely, the Lady Hawks hit the court running. They opened the game shooting 6-of-10 from the field and finished the half shooting 50 percent (13-of-26). By halftime they were ahead 27-16.

The Lady Knights offense picked up in the second half, but not enough to overcome the deficit they had from the first half. After scoring only two first half points, Carter exploded for 20 of the Lady Knights 23 second half points. Ten of those points came from the free throw line where she made 10-of-11.

While Carter was primarily the Lady Knights offense, 11 different players scored for the Lady Hawks. Jackie Harris led the team with 13 points. Keithyania Pace scored 11, including three, 3-pointers. Both Kristin Edwards and Marcy Rippy scored six points.

The Lady Hawks never took their foot off the gas. They opened the second half with an 11-2 run. They were ahead 44-21 after three quarters and led by as much as 26 points in the fourth. The Lady Hawks finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field overall (22-of-44).

The Lady Hawks averaged 51 points and defeated their opponents by an average of 35 points in their two tournament wins. They will play the Lady Dragons for the Middle School Area 1-AAA Girls Basketball Tournament Championship at 6:00pm Thursday.

The Kenwood Lady Knights will play the Sycamore Lady Knights in the consolation game at 3:30pm on Thursday.
