Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Indoor Aquatic Center to begin new water fitness program, Crow Community Center to host Tai Chi program and 153rd Anniversary of the Surrender of Clarksville.

Indoor Aquatic Center to begin new water fitness program

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has added another program to its water fitness lineup at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane.

A new, Adult Lap Swim Training Program is now open to those who are looking to take part in lap swimming or add a little challenge to their lap swimming routine. The program is designed to help those who are familiar with lap swim as well as beginners leading an inactive lifestyle to increase stamina and improve cardiovascular health. Each day is a new lap swim, interval workout so you’ll never get bored!

Adult Lap Swim Training is offered at the Indoor Aquatic Center on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12:00pm to 1:00pm as well as 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Cost for a seven-week training session is $35.00 for those with a pool pass or $50.00 without a pass. Pre-registration is required and is available online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

Crow Community Center to host Tai Chi program

The Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road, will host a new session of Tai Chi! Tai Chi will take place Tuesdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, February 3rd through March 24th.

This program is open to adults of any age who would like to reap the benefits of Tai Chi such as better balance, increased flexibility, and reduced stress. Tai Chi involves stretching and chair exercises. The class also relaxes and improves overall mind, body and spirit and can help reduce falls.

Cost is $20.00 for the entire 8-week program. Participants can register at the Crow Center, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main office, or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. A Community Center ID is required and can be purchased for $5.00. Center IDs are good for one calendar year at all three Community Centers.

This class is limited to a maximum of 20 participants, so register today!

153rd Anniversary of the Surrender of Clarksville

The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host a living history event to commemorate the 153rd anniversary of the Surrender of Clarksville, Saturday, February 21st from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Come see uniformed Civil War re-enactors from Baxter’s Battery who will provide living history and musket firing demonstrations. Musket firing demonstrations will take place at 11:00am and 2:00pm. Visitors can also tour the permanent exhibit which includes the 18-minute film, “Crossroads of Change 1861-1865”.
