Four Clarksville High Lady Wildcats reach double figures in rolling past Springfield Yellow Jackets 60-38

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s girls basketball team used a balanced scoring attack Tuesday, February 3rd at William Workman Gymnasium, placing four players into double figures on its way to defeating Springfield High School 60-38 in a District 10-AAA matchup.

The Lady Wildcats (17-9, 11-2 District 10-AAA) took control of the game quickly, picking up a couple early 3s from Ellie Treanton and Hannah Goins to get out to a 8-2 lead 2:08 into the game.

Goins would finish with 12 points, while Treanton chipped in with 10 points for CHS.

In fact, the three by Goins would be the start of a 10-0 run that Clarksville High used to build a 15-2 advantage over Springfield (2-18, 0-13 District 10-AAA) after one quarter of play.

Springfield would get as close as 11 points, 18-7, in the first 1:28 of the second quarter, but three 3s in the quarter – including two by JK Cummings – and five points by LaPrasha Fair extended the Clarksville High lead out to 16 points twice in the quarter, including at intermission, 28-13.

Fair had 12 points for the Lady Wildcats.

The third quarter would see the Lady Jackets put together their best quarter of the game, outscoring Clarksville High 13-8, in cutting the Lady Wildcats lead down to 11 points, 37-26, heading into the final quarter of play.

But that would be as close as they would get, with Haley Bearden opening the final period with a three-point play, followed by a basket by Goins, to back to by 16 points, 42-26, with 6:15 left in the game.

Bearden would finish with 10 points for CHS.

That opening burst by CHS took all the wind out of the Springfield sails, with the Lady Wildcats building its lead out to as many as 28 points, 56-28, with 2:55 left in the game.

Clarksville High would empty its bench in the final minutes of the game, with Springfield closing the game by outscoring the Lady Wildcats 10-4 over the final 2:40, but still winning handily, 60-38.

The win also sets up a home-court showdown with Henry County High School, at 6:00p.m., Friday, Feb. 6th, with the second seed in the upcoming District 10-AAA Tournament on the line.

A win by the Lady Wildcats will earn CHS the second seed in the District 10-AAA Tournament outright, but a Lady Patriots win will force a coin flip at the district coaches meeting to determine who will be the second and third seeds in the tournament.

Regardless of the outcome, and possible need for a coin flip, Clarksville High will host a first-round home game in the District 10-AAA Tournament next week.
