Fort Campbell, KY – As construction and renovation enter a new phase at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH), the Emergency Center’s reception and waiting area will relocate February 5th, and will no longer be accessible from inside the hospital until additional renovations are complete.
Entry into the reception and waiting area is via a ramp adjacent to the gray modular building on Joel Drive, between the old and new Emergency Center entrances. Patients seeking emergency care should still park in the Emergency Center parking lot or the overflow parking lot, which will remain unchanged.
As a result, the Emergency Center entrances have changed to allow for continuation of patient care and construction. “Renovation of the older space may take up to a year to complete and will feature a larger waiting area and additional administrative space,” Appenzeller said.
“We won’t see a big increase in the size of the ER for a while, but we will have new state-of-the-art rooms and equipment, to include two trauma bays, a treatment bay and 23 additional rooms. We ask for patience through these renovations.”
In the interim, patients should be aware that while the Emergency Center has larger rooms, the temporary modular waiting area has some space limitations, said Lt. Col. Elizabeth A. Grossart, Department of Emergency Medicine chief. “During the construction period, we request that only one person remain with the patient in the waiting area and if possible, large bags and strollers remain in your vehicle.”
As with any hospital, clinic patients should see their primary care manager whenever possible, and use the emergency center for true emergencies, Grossart said. “At this point in construction, we are swapping the old space for new one and look forward to the completion of both spaces for our patient population. During the transition period, we are really focused on providing the best care possible for emergency patients.”
