APSU Track and Field’s Breigh Jones takes third OVC weekly honor

Brentwood, TN – For the third time already in the young season, junior sprinter Breigh Jones, of the Austin Peay track and field team, has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week.

Jones earned three top-five finishes at the Thundering Herd Invitational. She took fifth in the 60m (7.67) and third in the 200m (24.56). Jones also ran a leg of the 4x400m relay to help the team finish third with a time of 3:50.88.

Both her 60m and 200m times are both personal bests. The 60m mark moved her into the top-eight in the OVC while she took over the conference lead in the 200m, in addition to her 400m lead.

This is the fourth career weekly honor Jones has received from the conference office and already her third this season. She’s the first athlete to win three or more indoor track honors in a single season since Eastern Kentucky’s Lydia Kosgei (six times) and Murray State’s Alexis Love (three) during the 2011-12 season.

Jones and the Lady Govs return to action this weekend in Bloomington, IN, for the Gladstein Invitational, January 23rd-24th.
