APSU Lady Govs Softball plays Miami (Ohio) at home, Friday

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will open the home part of its 2015 regular-season schedule at 1:00pm, Friday, at Cheryl Holt Field by playing host to Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in a doubleheader.

Friday’s twinbill originally was scheduled for Saturday but high winds and rapidly-dropping cold temperatures are expected Saturday afternoon, forcing the games to be moved up a day.

The Lady Govs enter the day with a 1-4 overall record, having opened the season last weekend at the Mississippi State Bulldog Kickoff Classic. Meanwhile, Miami opened up its season at the University of Illinois-Chicago Total Control Sports Invite, going 3-2.

APSU's Laurel BurroughsThe doubleheader will mark the fourth time the two programs have met on the softball diamond, including in each of the past two years, with Austin Peay holding a 3-2 advantage all-time in the series.

Offensively, Laurel Burroughs leads the Lady Govs with a .500 batting average, including two doubles and a home run, while scoring six runs and driving in five.

Right behind her is Christiana Gable and her .462 average, with a double and two home runs and a team-high 10 RBIs.

APSU's Natalie AyalaCourtney Brower (.417), Niya Sparks (.333) and Morgan Hoeg (.333) also had strong starts in the season’s opening week.

The RedHawks are led at the plate by Tiyona Marshall’s .474 batting average, while Taylor Shuey enters the weekend hitting at a .412 clip.

In the circle, Natalie Ayala leads the Lady Govs pitchers with a 1-2 win-loss mark and a 5.60 ERA.

Amber Logemann tops Miami’s pitchers with a 3-2 mark and a 2.86 ERA.
