Nashville Zoo to host Spring Gardening Classes

Nashville ZooNashville, TN – Nashville Zoo and the Master Gardeners of Davidson County are hosting gardening classes on Saturdays this spring. The informal sessions cover a variety of topics, including composting, organic gardening, rose care and canning.

Spring gardening classes are free with Zoo admission and take place at 11:00am in the Grassmere Historic Farm gardens located behind the house. The master gardener leading the session will answer guests’ questions and provide handouts, soil sample kits, and other helpful items.

March 7th: In The Beginning: Seed Starting, Ground Breaking, Raised Beds & Invasive Plants

March 14th: Gardeners Know All The Dirt: Composting, Plus Soil Enrichment w Green Manure

March 21st: Tooling Around: Tools are your friends – take care & Pruning for Success

March 28th: Nature’s Best From the Seedy Part of Town: Organic Gardening, Seed Saving and Butterfly Havens

April 11th: The Spice of Life: History of Medicinal Herbs & Culinary Herbs To Spice Up Your Life

April 18th: Coming Up Roses and Perennials: Rose Care and Planning Your Perennials

April 25th: You Are What You Eat: Good Nutrition Plus Flying Dragons & Other Weird Stuff

May 2nd: Yes You Can Can: Home Preserving by Canning & Pickling

Please note that there is not a class scheduled on April 4th due to the Zoo’s Eggstravaganzoo event.

The award-winning Master Gardeners of Davidson County are responsible for the complete restoration of the Grassmere Historic Home’s gardens. For the last 17 years, the Master Gardeners of Davidson County have provided the manpower, resources and expertise to keep the areas around the historic home both beautiful and bountiful.
