Clarksville – Montgomery County under Flood Advisory until late this afternoon

National Weather ServiceNashville, TN – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood advisory for rain and melting snow for Clarksville-Montgomery County and parts of Middle Tennessee until 3:00pm CST Saturday, February 21st.

An area of low pressure will move through the lower Mississippi River and Ohio River valleys this weekend bringing widespread rain anywhere from 2 to locally 4 inches to much of mid south. The rain will fall on top of ice and snow.

Some roads in low lying areas may flood today. Never drive through flood waters.

Most of the mid-state still has about an inch of ice on the ground which will add to the runoff in area creeks and streams. The heaviest rain is expected to move through tonight

As of 8:53am CST rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches in the advisory area have caused some of the ice and snow to melt. This runoff has started to pond in low lying areas and on roads where a slushy mixture remains.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches may be possible this afternoon so continue to monitor creeks and streams as rainfall continues to melt ice and snow.

Look for rises in the Duck River, Buffalo River, Harpeth River, Stones River, Red River and Cumberland River basins this weekend.

This advisory includes the following cities: Clarksville TN, Dickson TN, Centerville TN, Erin TN, Waverly TN, Springfield TN, Dover TN, Gallatin TN, Franklin TN, and Lebanon TN.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice, turn around, don’t drown. A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Counties Affected

Cheatham County, Davidson County, Dickson County, Hickman County, Houston County, Humphreys County, Montgomery County, Perry County, Robertson County, Rutherford County, Stewart County, Sumner County, Williamson County, and Wilson County.
